Home Humidifier Know-All
Living in Colorado the winters are extremely dry and cold. Often times homeowners don’t keep a window open to allow the house to air out. In combination with the dry air and cold weather, ailments can take over your body; sickness, allergies or asthma. Add a humidifier to your home to put moisture back into the air to help reduce the chances of getting sick this winter.
Humidifier Basics
What Is a Humidifier?
A humidifier takes water and turns it into vapor that is then released into the air, putting moisture into the air. There are a variety of humidifiers on the market for various home needs. Some specialize in relieving illnesses, whole house humidifying and there are even humidifiers for those who are always on-the-go, traveling.
Benefits
- Prevent sickness. During the cold and dry months in winter, mucus is dried which makes it more difficult to get rid of. Moist air helps to loosen up the mucus within the body which helps to reduce the risk of sickness.
- Protect furniture. Too little or too much moisture in the air can directly affect wood inside your home. Too little moisture; the wood will crack. Use a humidifier to help keep your wood furniture and flooring in tact.
- Moisturize the skin. When the heated conditioned air is running through your house, your skin will be left feeling dried out and itchy. A humidifier adds moisture into the air to help your skin regain some moisture.
- Create warmth. Additional moisture in the air will make it feel warmer. If the thermostat is set at 70 degrees fahrenheit and there is 10% humidity it will feel like it is 67 degrees. Whereas, if there was 50% humidity, it would feel like 69 degrees.
It is important to keep in mind that your humidifier needs to be cleaned. Bacteria can accumulate overtime which will be worse for one’s health.
