Air Conditioning Unit Cold Season Prep
As the fall temperatures are nearing, prep your air conditioning unit for the off-season. Don’t just turn off the power to your unit and call it a day when it no longer needed to cool the house. Keep up on all maintenance to extend the life of your unit in the long run. Follow these four tips to help keep your unit in pristine condition even during the cold seasons.
Tips for Cold Season Storage
Check for dust and particles: Make sure to clean and check for debris that is built up around the unit. Be sure to clean the grills and coil to decrease the unwanted particles and complications with the unit. You do not want to store your unit for months with it already covered in debris and dirt from the earlier season.
Change the air filters: Change the air filters in your unit before it sits idle for months. Fresh, new filters can protect the unit from additional problems down the road. Don’t allow your old, contaminated air filter to sit during the cold season. A unit with a new filter will have an easier time running again once the heat begins.
Conceal unit with waterproof tarp: During the cooler seasons, Colorado faces hail, rain, snow, sleet and wind protect your unit from the harsh weathers by covering your unit with a waterproof tarp or material. Although this does not fully protect the unit from all weather conditions, it helps for effective running once summer hits.
Don’t forget to check on it: When it comes to your HVAC system, maintenance is a major factor in how long and well your unit will run. Just because it is the off-season and not using the air conditioning unit make sure to check on it to remove excess debris and fix the tarp accordingly.
